<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, so there was this very strange vest I had - just check that weirdly shallow v-neck. It was so weird I couldn't stay still wearing it and considering its destiny. The initial idea was to transform it into a shirt, only it turned out it would be too short. Chopped, it ended up sitting around for a while. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Finally, I got a new laptop, and I sure wasn't buying a sleeve for it! So I turned to pieces of the old vest. As the vest was weirdly tailored, I had to piece the sleeve from several parts, rather then being able to make it out of a single piece of fabric. But never mind! It fits like a glove!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Warm and cushy inside...</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are still a few pieces left so I see some other gadgets get dressed in scraps of this old&ugly vest.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

A decade ago we were all wearing plush tracksuits (knock offs and no names) because they were IN. Then, we kept wearing them because they were so damn comfy!<br />
Shamelessly, I kept my suit all these years still preferring the bottoms as my go-to home wear. Although I rarely wore the top and bottom parts together, the zipper on the top part was broken last year, and I simply couldn't find the one of right colour and length to replace it. So, this sweatshirt was sitting in my refashion pile for a while now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCj1cviLn3w/VtsfUTWIUvI/AAAAAAAAIjY/bxpLPBjnPQ0/s1600/2016-03-05%2B09.21.31.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sCj1cviLn3w/VtsfUTWIUvI/AAAAAAAAIjY/bxpLPBjnPQ0/s320/2016-03-05%2B09.21.31.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So the old zipper underwent a lengthy picking session...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Syqf2Q0cbs/Vtsfj0XLj_I/AAAAAAAAIjc/mEysWIzQFE8/s1600/2016-03-05%2B09.29.02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1Syqf2Q0cbs/Vtsfj0XLj_I/AAAAAAAAIjc/mEysWIzQFE8/s320/2016-03-05%2B09.29.02.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
So the front could be stitched up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i2caddHv_yI/Vtsfj5neROI/AAAAAAAAIjg/fuQIenoTFvc/s1600/2016-03-05%2B11.00.35.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i2caddHv_yI/Vtsfj5neROI/AAAAAAAAIjg/fuQIenoTFvc/s320/2016-03-05%2B11.00.35.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This could have done the job, only... I really dislike closed sweaters with hoodies. They are like, the worst. So, in this scenario, hoodie had to go!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1k4rGRbTB1Y/Vtsfj6SSLVI/AAAAAAAAIjk/lfwDoyCRCmk/s1600/2016-03-05%2B11.01.42.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1k4rGRbTB1Y/Vtsfj6SSLVI/AAAAAAAAIjk/lfwDoyCRCmk/s320/2016-03-05%2B11.01.42.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Buh-bye hoodie! But wait! I had some scraps that are a match to this lovely fuchsia colour... And I could make a fun collar!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNkeHZazfwM/VtsfmJtwaiI/AAAAAAAAIj0/4HnQ4sgSM-E/s1600/2016-03-05%2B13.13.54.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-WNkeHZazfwM/VtsfmJtwaiI/AAAAAAAAIj0/4HnQ4sgSM-E/s320/2016-03-05%2B13.13.54.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Ta-da! (please note plush bottoms - I am simply beyond help)<br />
<br />
I am delighted with this save! I feel like I am going to have many cozy nights this cold spring!<br />
<br />
Love & peace,<br />

<b> </b>This piece was something I had lingering around for years. I bought this piece of fabric more than 10 years ago in Ljubljana, when I needed an instant swimming suit cover-up, and once I brought it home, I have converted it in a 'skirt' without making any cuts to the fabric. Several years later, I found that darts forming the waist of the skirt became disintegrated, and I was left with something that used to be a skirt. <b><br /></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3r_pjOHDzKU/Ve0RN0qiDVI/AAAAAAAAG_g/sUuu8njoYtQ/s1600/IMG_2526.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3r_pjOHDzKU/Ve0RN0qiDVI/AAAAAAAAG_g/sUuu8njoYtQ/s320/IMG_2526.JPG" width="240" /></a> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-840z-O8m3as/Ve0RO4myMFI/AAAAAAAAG_o/sJvDT6ttdbE/s1600/IMG_2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-840z-O8m3as/Ve0RO4myMFI/AAAAAAAAG_o/sJvDT6ttdbE/s320/IMG_2529.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The print being so fun and the fabric of good quality I decided to make the simplest choice - remove remaining darts and zipper carefully and make the boat neck dress-tunic. It is perfectly fun and I plan to keep it as multi-season piece which could liven up a dark autumn combination.</div>

As you could tell, this summer's refashions were dedicated to dealing with several pairs of similar capri-like (or more 7/8 lenghth) pants. In this case I have used the remaining trouser length to make travely loundry pouches which come really handy then travelling!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_F8NKsC6iP0/Ve0O56rJ5AI/AAAAAAAAG_E/Qk3D-hiIFIA/s1600/IMG_2527.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_F8NKsC6iP0/Ve0O56rJ5AI/AAAAAAAAG_E/Qk3D-hiIFIA/s320/IMG_2527.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jzfDgC_pF3M/Ve0O6iduqUI/AAAAAAAAG_M/NxvxzN--rdA/s1600/IMG_2528.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-jzfDgC_pF3M/Ve0O6iduqUI/AAAAAAAAG_M/NxvxzN--rdA/s320/IMG_2528.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
As for the shorts, I used some checkered red and white trim for hemming and making a loop for the button at the side for rolling up the hem.<br />

<b>Project number 4 - A double bill: </b></div>

<br />
My sister had 7/8 pants which she didn't wear, because she prefers full length pants. On the other hand, my husband had a pair of 3/4 which he wanted turned into shorts. To make them more comfortable, I used navy bias tape for the hem, allowing me to keep more length for length for lengthening the other pair. As for the 'stacking' result - it looked good. To reinforce the part of the paints suffering from the most wear and tear, I have ironed on the adhesive fabric.<br />

What it lacked in length I added from the sleeves by slicing them lengthwise. <span style="text-align: center;"> </span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The tunic had to be narrowed down a bit and instead of stitching at the sides I have left the ends untrimmed and tied. I used two scraps and tied the shoulder straps.<br />

Since I wasn't posting lately, and I had several summer projects done, I have decided to make a little series about these refashions made during the summer. </div>
<br />
A pair of pants which had weird flare at the bottom, which looked outdated and confusing since the pants were above the ankle length.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The process was quite simple - turn inside out, pin, baste. Then try and tweak. Stitch, cut excess and zig-zag stitch. And that's done!<br />

<span lang="EN-GB">I find dyeing clothes quite fun. The fun is about transforming your clothes batch-style! For a while, I had been collecting a pile of clothes I wanted to dye in different colours and the rainy weather was holding me back since it is always best to line-dry dyed clothes for the first time. Once the weather changed, it was time for our vacation, so this post was pending for a while now. Nevertheless, I would like to share a part of my dyeing adventure with you – and for this I chose the use of double batch of <a href="https://www.ulabox.com/producto/iberia-tinte-40-c-azul-electrico/6677" target="_blank"><span style="color: #1155cc;"> Iberia electric blue</span></a> and a pile of clothes, including:</span><br />

This skirt was a piece which I couldn't fit in for a while, and while waiting to 'reach it' I have lost more weight and an attempt to wear it as a low waist skirt was less then formidable. I felt like an aunty. Which I am not!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zuVgY6rmeHA/VZNwkcg7x-I/AAAAAAAAGJg/CmuzclG8NRY/s1600/IMG_2396.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zuVgY6rmeHA/VZNwkcg7x-I/AAAAAAAAGJg/CmuzclG8NRY/s320/IMG_2396.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Since I liked how the waist was done, I didn't really feel like destroying it in an attempt to smallify the skirt, so I rather went for a chop and for a low waist skirt. Once I have chopped, hemmed and dealt with the fly on the back I decided the skirt was way to plain, so I used some of the length, some lace trim and made a couple of decorative pockets at the front (because I don't need that cargo skirt thing on my thighs!) making it a fun little skirt I have been wearing for so many times already! I mean, this being a refashion made in the spring, and now being the summer.</div>

Recently, I learnt that jumpsuits are a big fashion thing this summer. And, I thought, I should get myself one. Only, I couldn't find a truly good looking plus size jumpsuit in Sarajevo, while the prices are anything but friendly (starting from 50 euro). So, I decided to make myself one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I had this pair of really large yoga pants which became too large since I have started loosing weight. They cost 2 euros at an outlet store. They seemed like a perfect piece for transformation in a jumpsuit.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mZhiabjghWw/VZNxoTql2UI/AAAAAAAAGOI/JHwxCed7obc/s1600/IMG_2408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mZhiabjghWw/VZNxoTql2UI/AAAAAAAAGOI/JHwxCed7obc/s320/IMG_2408.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
First, I unpicked the horizontal seam, detaching double layered waist band. Then, I removed the elastic sewn in the side stitches of the waist band, reattached these pieces to form a tube and stitched the tube back on the bottom part of the pants. This action resulted in a very long tube-y upper part of the jumpsuit. This picture shows jumpsuit to be pinned with two safety pins and hanged:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UIGDb99nQCE/VZNysXu6qPI/AAAAAAAAGP4/QCxR8gnHFH4/s1600/IMG_2447.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UIGDb99nQCE/VZNysXu6qPI/AAAAAAAAGP4/QCxR8gnHFH4/s320/IMG_2447.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
See? Then I figured out that I should unpick the side seam down to the point where my armpits would be once the piece is a jumpsuit. Which I did. As soon as I did that, I could put it on as a safety pin in and out jumpsuit. Only, it wouldn't do. Although, I did really line the cowl neck thing, deciding to keep it at front, while back had to be tackled differently. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WBM_80w40_g/VZNyr0R6cKI/AAAAAAAAGPw/hwgiecarKNM/s1600/IMG_2446.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WBM_80w40_g/VZNyr0R6cKI/AAAAAAAAGPw/hwgiecarKNM/s320/IMG_2446.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
All together, there was not enough fabric to reach over the shoulders, so I had to make an insert. As I decided to make a cowl neck, it was logical to 'amend' the back with a different fabric and lace was perfect for it. For this purpose I have use d rather opaque stretchy lace. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iooD9dcpvkI/VZNytBvcibI/AAAAAAAAGQA/6RnFiEpHfGc/s1600/IMG_2448.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iooD9dcpvkI/VZNytBvcibI/AAAAAAAAGQA/6RnFiEpHfGc/s320/IMG_2448.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In its past life it used to be underwear. Having removed worn-out and ripped bits, I was left with two identical pieces which I decided to use for the back and the shoulder part of this jumpsuit. Therefore, I have chopped off a part of back above the armpit line to make room for the lacey insert. To make it right for the first time, I decided to use a pattern. The only pattern I had at hand was for a dress, so I used it, as shown below:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CaIOTvP1eMg/VZNyt8_XkvI/AAAAAAAAGQI/7-H-G_O3aFo/s1600/IMG_2449.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CaIOTvP1eMg/VZNyt8_XkvI/AAAAAAAAGQI/7-H-G_O3aFo/s320/IMG_2449.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have laid down the back pattern on the lace, connecting the front pattern to it at the shoulders, which allowed for the back panel to extend to the front and be easily connected to the cowl.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As for the front, I made very little changes - I created arm curve by using the front of the above pattern, tilting it outwards to achieve the cowl front. This required several tries to connect the lace and the front, but once they were pinned correctly, the rest was easy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As for getting in and out of the jumpsuit, i decided not to stitch together the left and right side of the lace, but rather make them meet at the centre and attach by a hidden patent button. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

A couple years ago I have made a couple of jeans shorts, which I couldn't fit in last summer, since I was on a major yo-yo effect. However, this year they fit, only the other ones I found to be really worn out, while this pair had some potential for improvement. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bpScOWXUydU/VXlB3SyYSYI/AAAAAAAAF-w/fucU3YZTZXk/s1600/20150517_125239.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bpScOWXUydU/VXlB3SyYSYI/AAAAAAAAF-w/fucU3YZTZXk/s320/20150517_125239.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
As you can see, when cropping these, I have added a nice trim, only the jeans weren't looking so good, as they were worn out, but still not sufficiently discoloured. So, I made a bleach bath for these shorts. After a day, I wasn't quite happy with the bleaching result, so I added more bleach and left it marinate longer. Once I was happy with the result, I washed and air dried them.<br />

The first one is that he dislikes going shopping unless really necessary and for the second one - he insists on keeping his old clothing items, although he hasn't been wearing at least 50% of his wardrobe for years.<br />
<br />
For these reasons I tend to dive in his wardrobe and find items that are still looking good and can be worn for an additional period with some alterations. A while ago, I found a pair of never worn pants in his closet. The reason for keeping a pair of never-worn pants was the fact they needed to be shortened and he did not care for the colour. So I <a href="http://curvyrefash.blogspot.com/2014/11/a-chocolate-dye-job.html">fixed and dyed them</a> and now they are his favourite.<br />
<br />
As the seasons were changing (the winter is finally behind us) I figured I should take a look in his spring clothes and I found this denim jacket:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WqbPhUlDkv0/VTz7HO4Z-1I/AAAAAAAAFiE/xHdIiX5WoZo/s1600/IMG_2416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WqbPhUlDkv0/VTz7HO4Z-1I/AAAAAAAAFiE/xHdIiX5WoZo/s1600/IMG_2416.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It was really faded and it missed one button. Since it had no major defects I decided to give it a dark blue dye bath together with a pair of hubby's faded cotton pants. Since both items were made of pure cotton, the dye (I use iberia) took on really well. As these garments could handle it, I set the washing temperature on the highest setting. Additionally, there was the issue of the missing button. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ey4u0mhOsBU/VTz7ILKxP2I/AAAAAAAAFiM/XNsYx_MouX4/s1600/IMG_2417.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ey4u0mhOsBU/VTz7ILKxP2I/AAAAAAAAFiM/XNsYx_MouX4/s1600/IMG_2417.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I tried to remove a button from the cuff and reattach it to the front, since these buttons were really specific, and I didn't have a similar one in the stash, but sadly this attempt failed. I found another button of the similar colour and size and put it in place of the formerly lost button. And that was all that had to be done!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fqRdU3EE7nA/VTz7JAw4XjI/AAAAAAAAFiU/Yuh123NwvYs/s1600/IMG_2422.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fqRdU3EE7nA/VTz7JAw4XjI/AAAAAAAAFiU/Yuh123NwvYs/s1600/IMG_2422.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I hope my husband will enjoy this revived jacket and wear it out and about. <br />
<br />
Peace and love to all you refashionistas out there!<br />

It's been a while since I have last posted. Deep apologies for that. In the meantime, I haven't been completely estranged from my sewing machine... I tackled a couple of pants resizing projects, for both myself and my sister, however, nothing really interesting, bare necessities, if you'd please.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, I have a full rack of clothes for waiting for me to think up something to do with them, and then do it, eventually, but my life had become somewhat really time-consuming lately. Apparently, improving your life takes up so much of your time and even more of your energy, but it is worth it in the long run.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rnlP2Oq7vh8/VTiZNojvfWI/AAAAAAAAFfc/Rs55S2nmmIM/s1600/IMG_2367.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rnlP2Oq7vh8/VTiZNojvfWI/AAAAAAAAFfc/Rs55S2nmmIM/s1600/IMG_2367.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vb2erRE21oo/VTiZTp-cpEI/AAAAAAAAFfk/mvsSYI7QeeE/s1600/IMG_2366.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Vb2erRE21oo/VTiZTp-cpEI/AAAAAAAAFfk/mvsSYI7QeeE/s1600/IMG_2366.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This time, I have chosen my grandmother's shirt. It had an cool print making the colour of grey visually interesting. So, I knew I had something to do with the side openings which were so granny-styled and all pro hide-your-shape, so naturally, the first thing I did was to unpick the slits so they could be stitched together. Since this shirt was hanging on the refashion rack for soo long once I have commenced it, when I took another look at it, I realised there was more to be done, so I proceeded with my scissors. I have cut off the sleeve cuffs, the collar and bottom of the front panels. I have cut the neckline in a V-shape.<br />
<br />
Next up, I zig-zagged the raw edges (I haven't got a serger), pinned and basted the edges and pressed them prior machine stitching them. Aaaaand then, my machine started messing with me. Fuzzed and knotted thread, breaking the thread, tension coil acting erratically... I was ready to give up. Finally, I managed to persuade the machine to give me those few stitches, but then i noticed that the thread tension messed up the collar and it was all wobbly. Nooooo! So I had to unpick it... and do it again. While picking the seam, I managed to poke a couple of holes along the seam, so... I was all 'NOOOOOOO...' and about to give up again. Tried to find some decorative ribbon or something similar to cover this mishap, but my stash didn't hold anything matching the colour scheme of the blouse, and I didn't want to leave the holes visible... So, I thought... zig-zag stitch would probably work better and wouldn't cause the wobble, so I zig-zagged instead of straight-line stitching the collar and it was not wobbly this time. So, win. However, the issue of two tiny holes I made while picking the wobbly seam was still there... and then it hit me. Use the parts of the removed sleeve cuffs to hide the holes and decorate the neckline! Symmetry? No way! So, here is a nearly failed grandma's shirt refashion: <br />

<br />
For a while I kept contemplating how to tackle this pause... so I just decided to make it work. Most likely, there will be a time during this year when I will have be more likely to create then I was in February, so I will proceed with my projects exactly where I have left off.<br />
<br />
I have even bought a clothes rack to keep a visual on pending refashions, as hiding them in boxes wasn't very inciting.<br />
<br />
In addition to this, I have combed through my closet once again, to retrieve some pieces which I simply can not keep wearing as they are, as my body keeps changing.<br />
<br />
So I made a trade off deal with my sister - I fix some of my pieces and get them to her, and she gets me the access to her closet and the never-ending pile of clothes she doesn't wear any more. I the meantime, I gave her a couple belts which were too big and a winter tunic which was too short to refashion in a dress... so I hope that more refashion inspo is about to come!<br />
<br />
On an additional note (as I keep thinking about refashioning a lot more than I can get my hands on it), I think I have thought up a smart way to take in dress pants (which I have a several good quality pairs to deal with). <br />
<br />
But, prior dealing with those, I think I'll fix myself a fun good-bye-winter-oh-you're-still-here skirt for my semi-outdoors birthday party next Sunday!<br />

Love,<br />

She died five years ago an that was a really difficult part of my life, since she was the focal point who brought my family together. Losing her, while at the same time dealing with severe health problems was a true challenge for me and for the rest of my family.<br />
<br />
It was my grandma who installed the notion of frugality and insisted on every piece of clothing to be kept and reused. She used to tell me how my mother grew wearing refashioned clothes and that it didn't make her any lesser person than the one she became. She insisted on making us (me and my sister) frugal and grateful persons. I wish if had only taken on more of these characteristics then I have.<br />
<br />
When I was a teenager, I was so annoyed about keeping all the old stuff, especially the clothes and then I did not quite understand what the proverb 'One man's trash is the other man's treasure'. As I grew older learned the wisdom to it. Being creative thought me to keep the small things which had the potential of beautiful, and as I was keeping the clothes (sometimes I wish I had kept more of it, but then, I would have been buried in stuff in our little apartment.<br />
<br />
But hey, my 'refash stash' is quite bountiful as is. For this week's project, I used the sweatshirt with funky collar and a zipper:<br />
very a<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o3fyLN2JuP4/VMktO8DKLdI/AAAAAAAAEr4/WmbMMN0rClk/s1600/tnic_before2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-o3fyLN2JuP4/VMktO8DKLdI/AAAAAAAAEr4/WmbMMN0rClk/s1600/tnic_before2.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
and quite common, boxy, turtleneck sweater:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6IylA-x--BQ/VMktQL-JOvI/AAAAAAAAEsA/5KrKZTACYwY/s1600/tnic_before1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6IylA-x--BQ/VMktQL-JOvI/AAAAAAAAEsA/5KrKZTACYwY/s1600/tnic_before1.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
First up, I have unpicked the sweatshirt's collar, zipper, the bottom hem and weird rubber tag. As I thought I was going to make a dress, I decided to pick the hem to gain more length, only to realize that it would look so much better if I'd make the cut at the level of my waist.<br />
So, I proceeded with trimming the length to the waist and chopping off the sleeves, as I wasn't going to keep them anyway. As the sweatshirt was too wide at the waist, I have narrowed it by bringing the side stitches inwards at an angle to better match my figure.<br />
<br />
Next up, I cut the sweater just below the sleeves to use its trunk for the bottom part of this tunic. As the knit was machine knitted, there was no need to hem it, so the better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I measured a piece of elastic to my waist and stitched it to the bottom (aka the skirt). There are some great tutorials out there on how to do this, like <a href="http://www.randomlyhappyblog.com/2013/08/how-add-sew-waist-dress.html">this one</a>. Next, I used the same method to stitch the top and the now elasticized bottom part.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now for the fun part. As these colors are so similar and neutral, they needed a pop of color and it came to me to - my absolute favorite color! Turquoise! I turned my <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ViHp8TWgAsY/VLfYJtLW4aI/AAAAAAAAEho/Su3NwjbuDRk/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B007.JPG">magical suitcase</a> inside out to find turquoise / aqua / gasoline colored stretchy lace! Perfect for making accents on this tunic!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, I chose a similarly colored thread and hemmed the neckline and sleeves with zig-zag because the sweatshirt top fabric texture required something bold to make it a little less common. In place of the zipper, I placed a piece of lace in a triangle shape. Finally, I added a piece of the lace to the front, along the waist to give it some more visual interest and pop! Et voila! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcqZf0TiQSU/VMktZcPHpmI/AAAAAAAAEtI/w2b-9ZjKVSw/s1600/tnic_AFTER.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OcqZf0TiQSU/VMktZcPHpmI/AAAAAAAAEtI/w2b-9ZjKVSw/s1600/tnic_AFTER.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I think it turned out really well! From trash to fash!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I find this to be quite right, especially when it comes to clothing basics, like a white shirt for example. Everyone needs a decent white shirt in their closet, and so do I, especially as I work in the justice system. <br />
<br />
My closet was hiding one frumpy, yet good quality white shirt which I haven't worn lately for the very reason of being way too frumpy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9iFTFvTs1Do/VMksh86-FaI/AAAAAAAAEqE/XAGXHcRmtqU/s1600/shulja.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9iFTFvTs1Do/VMksh86-FaI/AAAAAAAAEqE/XAGXHcRmtqU/s1600/shulja.jpg" height="320" width="179" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This picture being so bad, I have decided to try staying away from my
narrow mirror and phone combo and rather try having someone take a photo
of me for my future refashions. However, I think that you get the picture of the problems related to this shirt. It was to wide for me and the long front I really disliked. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, first, I pinned the sides of the shirt and basted as marked. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ag4e8iJmeC4/VMkslUQQovI/AAAAAAAAEqc/_Ov98OA8AbU/s1600/shulja_baste.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ag4e8iJmeC4/VMkslUQQovI/AAAAAAAAEqc/_Ov98OA8AbU/s1600/shulja_baste.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Next I stitched it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lu8BrqAtWa0/VMksnVLsNQI/AAAAAAAAEqs/SKWPC89SP1Y/s1600/shulja_sewside.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Lu8BrqAtWa0/VMksnVLsNQI/AAAAAAAAEqs/SKWPC89SP1Y/s1600/shulja_sewside.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Then, by using the pinking shears I cut off the extra fabric at sides and zig-zag stitched the edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ADoHUuhjdzs/VMksohXSTFI/AAAAAAAAEq0/063hOEIzmtI/s1600/shulja_cutside.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ADoHUuhjdzs/VMksohXSTFI/AAAAAAAAEq0/063hOEIzmtI/s1600/shulja_cutside.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Next I tackled the too long front. Before proceeding with cutting the front, I have unpicked the tiny hem approximately one inch from the side seam to the front and to the back as well. This is an important step for neat hemming later. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2EWcdDGk7GE/VMksmm3Z43I/AAAAAAAAEqk/YFyrXXCtSLM/s1600/shulja_ripseam.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2EWcdDGk7GE/VMksmm3Z43I/AAAAAAAAEqk/YFyrXXCtSLM/s1600/shulja_ripseam.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
With pinking shears, I have first cut right front in a straight line. Then I attached the fronts and following the side I first trimmed, I trimmed the other side as well.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VynXuRuaVnA/VMkspgPKwRI/AAAAAAAAEq8/XgyOwok5acU/s1600/shulja_cutfront.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VynXuRuaVnA/VMkspgPKwRI/AAAAAAAAEq8/XgyOwok5acU/s1600/shulja_cutfront.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Once the front was cut, I have made the tiny hem starting from the front. I did it by double folding the fabric inwards, so that the edge becomes hidden. I do not pin the tiny hem, but rather hold it down as I sew - two to three inches at the time. The stitch length is usually shorter then in other hem types.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LBTYRq1Ab8I/VMksrJiUt3I/AAAAAAAAErE/W2ZIb1B590c/s1600/tiny_hem.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LBTYRq1Ab8I/VMksrJiUt3I/AAAAAAAAErE/W2ZIb1B590c/s1600/tiny_hem.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So, as this finishes this little visual guide on how to make your shirt fit better! I hope you make yourself some fitted shirts as well!</div>

</div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As I was recovering from the flu, this week's refashion was something that required only a little machine sewing and the rest was just hand stitching, which I did while I was still in bed. The garment the sleeves I used came from this blouse: </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5rQevoEQUsE/VKE4kh2mQHI/AAAAAAAAERo/zXjBOjFtTTE/s1600/20141228_122809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5rQevoEQUsE/VKE4kh2mQHI/AAAAAAAAERo/zXjBOjFtTTE/s1600/20141228_122809.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
You might remember it from one of my previous projects - <a href="http://curvyrefash.blogspot.com/2014/12/happy-new-year-dress.html">the dress I made for the New Year</a>. I used it as the bottom part of the dress and I kept the sleeves.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WGlMjpSufF4/VL3wTFq5_4I/AAAAAAAAEkw/X23ucScfSF4/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WGlMjpSufF4/VL3wTFq5_4I/AAAAAAAAEkw/X23ucScfSF4/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B011.JPG" height="320" width="240" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
First, I chopped off the sleeves to make the edge straight and then I machine stitched it to achieve the necessary shape and width. Then, I trimmed the excess and zig-zag stitched the raw edges. Then I folded and stitched the top edge. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
From an earlier inspection of the sleeves I knew that one of them was somewhat holey, but the other one was more like riddled with holes. The lucky circumstance there being was the fact that holes were mostly located along the seam, which I removed in the process of fitting the sleeve in a leg warmer. However, there were still some holes which needed to be fixed, like this one:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tCeYkO_s6Q0/VL3wohwgoPI/AAAAAAAAEk8/T3rmkm6c4lw/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tCeYkO_s6Q0/VL3wohwgoPI/AAAAAAAAEk8/T3rmkm6c4lw/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B013.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
So, I first hand patched the holes the best that I could. The fact that they were not very big, but rather numerous and the knit being black, made this worthwhile.<br />
<br />
As plain black legwarmers are no fun, I decided to add some sequins to the top edge and I chose black, golden and brown ones for this. After several episodes of Criminal Minds I was done with sequin embellishing of the leg warmers.<br />
<br />

Flu has slowed me down during the week, and although I finished the project, I couldn't write the post timely. However, as the fever broke for a bit, I got to posting this one.<br />
<br />
As I have lost some weight by now (40 something lbs) I am pretty much pushed into remodeling most of my clothes. Most of those I used to wear only because they were big enough to fit me, so I wouldn't really care for refashioning them. However, I got a number of pieces from my mother, who has also lost weight over the past few years, so I got a pile of tailored skirt suits and skirts from her.<br />
<br />
One of the pieces I got from her I really liked, but our bodies (and style for that matter) were and still are quite different.<br />
<br />
This is the B&W houndstooh skirt I started off with:<br />
<br />
<br />
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="MsoTableGrid" style="border-collapse: collapse; border: currentColor; mso-border-insideh: none; mso-border-insidev: none; mso-padding-alt: 0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-yfti-tbllook: 1184;">

<td style="background-color: transparent; border: rgb(0, 0, 0); padding: 0cm 5.4pt; width: 232.2pt;" valign="top" width="310"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DANTIxuQt1o/VLeOIiFDiyI/AAAAAAAAEhE/p5VD_bUMPWY/s1600/20150107_165737.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-DANTIxuQt1o/VLeOIiFDiyI/AAAAAAAAEhE/p5VD_bUMPWY/s1600/20150107_165737.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Calibri;"></span></td>
<td style="background-color: transparent; border: rgb(0, 0, 0); padding: 0cm 5.4pt; width: 232.2pt;" valign="top" width="310"><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">

</td>
</tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The skirt was ok at the waist, but the hips were too big and overall it was too long. As these problems required the skirt to be fully dissembled and then re-assembled, I wanted to have something more then just it's size being adjusted... so I thought and I remembered a very cool skirt I saw on anthropologie site. This one:</div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/4120235724425_044_b?wid=425" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://images.anthropologie.com/is/image/Anthropologie/4120235724425_044_b?wid=425" height="320" width="213" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/pdp/detail.jsp?&navAction=jump&id=4120235724425&color=044&cm_sp=PRODUCT_DETAIL-_-RECOMMENDATIONS-_-4120235724425#/">Anthropologie <span class="ng-binding ng-scope" ng-switch-default="">Houndstooth Ponte Pencil Skirt</span></a></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
So I thought, I should be able to do something similar with this mine... all I needed was a two-sided zipper and some ribbon. Digging through my sewing accessories' stash yielded exactly what I needed! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ViHp8TWgAsY/VLfYJtLW4aI/AAAAAAAAEho/Su3NwjbuDRk/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ViHp8TWgAsY/VLfYJtLW4aI/AAAAAAAAEho/Su3NwjbuDRk/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
As the first step, I have dissembled the skirt by picking all the stitches.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ELyQLoIQBUw/VLfb3yxBEII/AAAAAAAAEh0/fBT8zrUUW04/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ELyQLoIQBUw/VLfb3yxBEII/AAAAAAAAEh0/fBT8zrUUW04/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B008.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Next, the skirt needed to be steam ironed to straighten previous seam lines and to create the new one. Now, I have turned the back of the skirt and it became the front, where they would be conjoined by the zipper. The zipper needed to be carefully pinned and then basted to the skirt.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eZcJ1oJCwO8/VLfdeD6zCJI/AAAAAAAAEiA/gsP9rvqJ5TI/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eZcJ1oJCwO8/VLfdeD6zCJI/AAAAAAAAEiA/gsP9rvqJ5TI/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B009.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pinned and basted zipper - right side</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1MS1Ju3oXO4/VLfdiL-GZhI/AAAAAAAAEiI/qnHfiFu9kG8/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1MS1Ju3oXO4/VLfdiL-GZhI/AAAAAAAAEiI/qnHfiFu9kG8/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B010.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pinned and basted zipper - wrong side</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After I have secured the zipper and it looked neat, I have machine stitched it. Next, I tried it on and pinned and stitched. And did it again. And again. After the third recursion it looked good. I have then cut of zig-zagged the raw edges on the side seams and ironed the skirt. Apparently, steam ironing of the garment throughout the process helps a lot especially if you are sewing with fabrics that have character (opposed to stretchy fabrics).<br />
<br />
Then, I have pinned and stitched decorative ribbon I found in my stash... which I remembered came from the Lush Cosmetics gift. They do really lovely gift packaging! And planet friendly, as well!<br />
<br />
Next up, I have trimmed the end of the waistband where the button hole was, ironed it and pinned to the waist of the skirt. Stitched it and ironed the waist so that the black fabric is inside and houndstooth on the outside. Finally, I pinned the lining to the waistband and ironed the whole thing. The inside of the skirt waist looks like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n0I7dn5ddNA/VLfx1AcIPJI/AAAAAAAAEik/VXcwo_E-uyw/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n0I7dn5ddNA/VLfx1AcIPJI/AAAAAAAAEik/VXcwo_E-uyw/s1600/Januar%2B2015%2Bvol%2B1%2B017.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this is the final result, tada!</div>

</div>
I guess that anyone who was reading my blog lately figured I have something going on for cardigans. And it is the true. They are my favourite pieces of wardrobe. I try to have as many as I can, in every style there is, every colour I can find.<br />
<br />
This time I have refashioned quite a peculiar piece of clothing in a new cardigan. It was probably meant to be a sweater. Only it wasn't. Or a tunic? But it wasn't that either. Nevertheless, here is the garment and I'll let you judge it yourself.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0VFR7LOK6Cw/VKzlyRYG_yI/AAAAAAAAEbQ/eWk9QI680hQ/s1600/20150103_095948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0VFR7LOK6Cw/VKzlyRYG_yI/AAAAAAAAEbQ/eWk9QI680hQ/s1600/20150103_095948.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
See? It is a very long sweater with a super big opening at the front. When worn it looks even funnier.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6-zo_VbTb2s/VK1GWpMECgI/AAAAAAAAEbo/VmMLgcZ1NSU/s1600/2015-01-03%2B09.58.13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6-zo_VbTb2s/VK1GWpMECgI/AAAAAAAAEbo/VmMLgcZ1NSU/s1600/2015-01-03%2B09.58.13.jpg" height="320" width="219" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I am sorry for the crappy mirror picture, but I couldn't get anyone to take snap of me wearing this weir garment. However, you can get the general notion. Neckline hoes as deep as the bottom of the tummy. Why? I never really understood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Naturally, this sweater was doomed to become a cardigan! Once I have unpicked the seams I noticed that I needed to remove the trim, as there were tiny holes left along the trim as I was unpicking the flaps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Unpicked and trimmed the newly established cardigan was a lot like the previous sweater - lacking the front. And a lot of it! So, it needed something to be added to it. From my on-hand stash I have retrieved one of pieces of the pieces of a nice stretchy plush. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9etou1O_E6E/VK1H0NUS_jI/AAAAAAAAEb0/hO7TFcSq4Eg/s1600/2015-01-03%2B10.50.52.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9etou1O_E6E/VK1H0NUS_jI/AAAAAAAAEb0/hO7TFcSq4Eg/s1600/2015-01-03%2B10.50.52.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This fabric is a leftover from an excessive buy from like fifteen years ago. I always keep fabric, at any cost. You literally never know what might you need it for. So, I have measured the length of the sweater fronts (from the center of the neck to the end of the front). To take the measurement, fold along the centre of the back and obtain the measurement (shown as a red line).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gea7A_3XenE/VK1LptAJ-nI/AAAAAAAAEcI/wJHpo02P9AM/s1600/WK%2B1%2Bcardigan.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gea7A_3XenE/VK1LptAJ-nI/AAAAAAAAEcI/wJHpo02P9AM/s1600/WK%2B1%2Bcardigan.png" height="320" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Basically, you will need two stripes of fabric 30 cm wide double the measured length + several centimeters for seam allowance. When you are done cutting these strips, attach them to form a single long strip of fabric. The seam will be positioned exactly at the back of the neck. Match the centre of the fabric with the middle of the neck opening and pin them right sides together. Continue pinning to the shoulder seams, and then along the edge of the front panels (basically, along the red line shown at the above picture) to the end. If you have some excess material (previously planned seam allowance), leave it as it is for now. Baste if you prefer, and then machine stitch as pinned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Next up, go back to where you have started off. Turn the added material right side out and inwards, try it on and check how it looks. As the plush I was using was falling rather nicely I decided to pin the inner side of the plush from the centre of the neck to the shoulder seams, which I then stitched. After trying it on, I decided I liked how it looked.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Since I have previously removed knit trim due to unpicking accident, I hemmed the bottom of the cardigan. Prior hemming it (to avoid excessive stretching I have pressed on the heat adhesive tape on the wrong side and then hemmed it. I felt like it was necessary as the sweater knit was very soft and stretchy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I tried it on again, seeing that there is enough plush length to make the cardigan front ends slightly pointy. I pinned it and decided to go for it. Instead of making the 90 degree angle, I made something more like 60 degree angle to achieve a more elongated look. I suggest if you have any extra length left, I suggest to make a similar sharp angle cut as it adds to the sleek look of the finished garment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h_fh1qJK4Mk/VK1RRTR0E1I/AAAAAAAAEcg/bFLPG6fkonY/s1600/2015-01-07%2B16.28.37.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-h_fh1qJK4Mk/VK1RRTR0E1I/AAAAAAAAEcg/bFLPG6fkonY/s1600/2015-01-07%2B16.28.37.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Depending on the fabric you are using and its quality (fraying potential) you might want to make a tiny hem along the front, or just skip it entirely. Check for any stray pins, cut off the extra thread and your sweater is ready to be worn!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

During this time, sewing became an important part of my life, and I would like to make it even more so.<br />
<br />
Namely, I would like to announce the 'One refashion a week challenge' to be carried out during 2015!<br />
<br />
So, every Wednesday for a year I will be sharing a refashion, upcycle or a fabric repurpose project with you all. <br />
<br />
I have dedicated this little project to going easy on the Planet in 2015, as a reminder for all of our goods that emerge from its womb. We should all be seeking a way to reverse the damage we cause by our existence and if we cannot find a way to do so, then we can at least try to do less harm. And this is the way I can do something right. And that is reusing things.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05906077249752840589noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4046268045413131586.post-1300226202269403962015-01-01T00:00:00.000-08:002015-01-01T00:00:16.597-08:00What to do with all those scraps?One of the ideas behind my refashioning is the idea of reusing and recycling. I prefer reusing and repurposing things over throwing them away. Naturally, after refashioning you get left with a lot of fabric scraps and most of them a re too small to be of any use. So I found a way to use all those tiny scraps and all worn-out or partially ripped pantyhose.<br />
<br />
I use these to make ergonomic office chair cushions! I hope you will enjoy this project and recreate it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jjHIAud91Hw/VJKHsoWloUI/AAAAAAAAEJU/HGgAe10g4D0/s1600/20141122_111929.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jjHIAud91Hw/VJKHsoWloUI/AAAAAAAAEJU/HGgAe10g4D0/s1600/20141122_111929.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
First off, you will need to cut off the pantie part of the pantyhose and fill each of the 'legs' with scraps. The smaller the fabric scraps, the more comfortable the pillow. So enjoy cutting the fabric. Even children can help which helps them become involved in your repurposing projects. They can thank you later :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jjHIAud91Hw/VJKHsoWloUI/AAAAAAAAEJU/HGgAe10g4D0/s1600/20141122_111929.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O-zXgvYI7_o/VJKHsqURRJI/AAAAAAAAEJU/ryVAbkOx0j4/s1600/20141122_111901.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-O-zXgvYI7_o/VJKHsqURRJI/AAAAAAAAEJU/ryVAbkOx0j4/s1600/20141122_111901.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Once you have filled the stocking, you will need to close it. The easiest way to do it would be running a threaded needle along the edge and pulling the thread to gather and close the stocking. Then hand sew to secure the closing of the stocking. It should look something like the one on the above photo.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Next up, you will need to use these stocking-sausages to form the pillow. Safety pins are very useful for this process. You will need to curl the inside sausage like shown on the photo below. As you go, secure with safety pins. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ww83vwoDQz0/VJKHsiNwZCI/AAAAAAAAEJU/aFTNrbIWF_w/s1600/20141122_112511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ww83vwoDQz0/VJKHsiNwZCI/AAAAAAAAEJU/aFTNrbIWF_w/s1600/20141122_112511.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Once you are done with the first one, continue curling the second one from the end of the first one onwards. When done, it should look like this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-03FkW8lyzgo/VJlEAISi3QI/AAAAAAAAELA/6yVFOl1iO6A/s1600/20141122_113628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-03FkW8lyzgo/VJlEAISi3QI/AAAAAAAAELA/6yVFOl1iO6A/s1600/20141122_113628.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When your sausages are curled up and secured forming a sausage disc, you will need to proceed by sewing sausages at the positions where you have placed security pins. As you go by stitching, remove security pins one by one. When done stitching, the pillow should hold as it is. However, it will need a lot of reinforcement to be able to withstand the daily pressure of your sitting weight and provide you with adequate posture support.<br />
<br />
Next, you will need some ribbon: <br />
- 4 long pieces (contrasting colour to the stocking works best) and <br />
- 18 short ones of the same or similar colour of the stocking<br />
<br />
The long pieces should be long enough to loosely wrap around the disc dividing it in halves. Place and tie each of these 4 ribbons by turning the pillow by 45 degrees (1/8 circle). Tie them at the centre and the bottom of the pillow to make the ties inconspicuous.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CNIh8pbqotc/VJKHsoTH70I/AAAAAAAAEJU/qQ34pqHJdks/s1600/20141122_191149.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-CNIh8pbqotc/VJKHsoTH70I/AAAAAAAAEJU/qQ34pqHJdks/s1600/20141122_191149.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
When the long ties are placed (not that they should be somewhat loose, as the short ties will tighten them) start making hidden (short) ties. You can start either from the inner or the outer circle. After tying, trim the excess ribbon. <br />
<br />
How to make the short ties: take a piece of ribbon, push it between the sausages over the long ribbon, push back between the sausages and back. Tie over the long ribbon at the bottom of the pillow.<br />
<br />
Do not forget to make two ties at the centre of the pillow. Tie them at 90 degree angle to secure the long ribbons in the centre of the pillow.<br />
<br />
When you are done tying and trimming the short ties, you should end up with barely visible knots over long ribbons.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h8pR4-saTCc/VJKHsimANNI/AAAAAAAAEJU/SCBrm47Zeas/s1600/20141122_191131.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-h8pR4-saTCc/VJKHsimANNI/AAAAAAAAEJU/SCBrm47Zeas/s1600/20141122_191131.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And voila, your cushion is ready to go to the office with you and provide support to your back during the long office hours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />

Since the New Year is coming up and it seems to be a particularly cold one, and we are planning to go out to live music in a bar and then possibly to the open air celebration, I decided I needed a dress.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, the dress needs to be <u>really warm</u> and needs to have something <u>fun</u> - like animal print :)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, I started off with two old wool blend sweaters - and some vintage fabric with animal print.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n1V6QORuB58/VKE4klsI7vI/AAAAAAAAERk/LlJxnl9Kvs0/s1600/20141228_122623.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n1V6QORuB58/VKE4klsI7vI/AAAAAAAAERk/LlJxnl9Kvs0/s1600/20141228_122623.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5rQevoEQUsE/VKE4kh2mQHI/AAAAAAAAERk/wg4ggDcDttU/s1600/20141228_122809.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5rQevoEQUsE/VKE4kh2mQHI/AAAAAAAAERk/wg4ggDcDttU/s1600/20141228_122809.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LDLSY3ZXnEI/VKE4khKCWiI/AAAAAAAAERk/vGt6R2zzWoA/s1600/20141228_122843.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LDLSY3ZXnEI/VKE4khKCWiI/AAAAAAAAERk/vGt6R2zzWoA/s1600/20141228_122843.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Fabric scrap</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The first sweater (dolce vita) had numerous holes and was very worn out. The second one had a whole collection of holes along the seams, especially on the sleeves (which is sad, because now I cannot make leg warmers). But I could still be able to use the cowl for a hat or something similar.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
As the first sweater is more lightweight and fitted I chose it for the top, and the second warmer sweater was to become the bottom part of the dress. Print would, naturally go in between. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The main idea came from a photo I found on pinterest (unfortunately, no tutorial or a project were related to this pin):</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z6kVViC3cwc/VKFjUb7ib2I/AAAAAAAAES4/AjSMu9ew0Pg/s1600/8ef239c6f95dc1142c531fc6fbef49f9.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-z6kVViC3cwc/VKFjUb7ib2I/AAAAAAAAES4/AjSMu9ew0Pg/s1600/8ef239c6f95dc1142c531fc6fbef49f9.jpeg" height="285" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, here is my process. I have first chopped off the sleeves to the point where there were no holes (pragmatic). Wanting to achieve the 'countured' and contrast top, I have cut off the front of the dolce vita. To make sure that both sides looked approximately the same, i have folded over and pinned the blouse to make sure fabric wouldn't move, like shown below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yi395J-89nI/VKFUqfEe9WI/AAAAAAAAESo/XazmRfYKCsU/s1600/20141228_151125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-yi395J-89nI/VKFUqfEe9WI/AAAAAAAAESo/XazmRfYKCsU/s1600/20141228_151125.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Next, I laid folded fabric over the cut in the top shirt and drawn the contour along which I have cut the fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KF_6ndDOvCI/VKFotuR1MwI/AAAAAAAAETI/nbOsxp58oW8/s1600/20141228_151141.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KF_6ndDOvCI/VKFotuR1MwI/AAAAAAAAETI/nbOsxp58oW8/s1600/20141228_151141.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div align="justify" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next step was to attach the print fabric to the front of the shirt, which I did by making tiny inwards fold of the print fabric and attaching it to the top. After a failed attempt or two, I realised it was the best to start pinning from the centre outwards - which I recommend as the best method of attaching these two types of fabric. Once pinned, baste the seam so machine stitching would be easier. Now, the dress looks like this:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mi2YrKCMTTU/VKJf7sIBHnI/AAAAAAAAEUA/pu5qGyGMyD4/s1600/20141228_153437.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mi2YrKCMTTU/VKJf7sIBHnI/AAAAAAAAEUA/pu5qGyGMyD4/s1600/20141228_153437.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Once this part is done, put the top on, measure the width of your back and the length difference to match the print front. When measured, add 1,5 cm seam allowance and cut. Pin and sew the back panel to the top. Next, pin and sew the sides. Try the top of the dress on. If necessary, mark and sew the sides to accentuate the waist. <br />
<br />
Next up, you will need to tackle the other sweater. Unpick or cut the sleeves and collar. I have unpicked mine. Next, trim off the sweater shoulders to make a straight line (the future waist) of the skirt. Then, baste and stitch the sweater to the skirt-like shape, (red line) shown at the picture below. Depending on how large your sweater is you would need to take in the sides. <br />

<br />
Once you are done with the skirt, you will proceed to the next step - attaching the top and the shirt in a dress. The best way to do it is the following:<br />
<br />
- put the top right side out, front up on your work surface<br />
- put the skirt right side in, front up (that is if you have decided which would be the front)<br />
- pull the skirt over the top so that their edges (waist) meet<br />
- pin the seams of the top and the skirt together with a single pin (each side) to avoid having mismatched side seams<br />
- pin along front and back of the waist<br />
- sew two parts of the dress together as pinned<br />
<br />
To finish off the neckline and sleeves (which had raw edges), I used press-on sticky tape. I have cut it in half, lengthwise (0,7 cm resulting width) and pressed on the wrong side of the fabric. Next, I removed the paper, folded the edges and pressed again, creating a seam-like finish. This method was perfectly complete without any machine stitching.<br />
However, as I expect this dress to be worn and (machine) washed, I didn't want to risk any seams falling apart (especially the neckline and the sleeves), I have machine stitched over the 'glued' end.<br />
<br />
And here is dress once I have finished it!<br />

I found a number of tutorials online, and all of them were consisted of the same instructions. <br />
All they entailed was rubber-band 'estrangulation' of jeans and some patience towards bleaching them. As far as I am concerned, I felt like every tutorial I came across was fine, so all it takes is to google the term 'tie bleach jeans tutorial' and you will have some decent instructions to get a unique pair of jeans.<br />
<br />
I had this pair of dark grey jeans which were pretty worn out and I made some effort to make the necessary fixes before I proceeded with tie-bleach routine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmxT9I3tUg0/VIcGBsn8O8I/AAAAAAAAEBU/VkE5wAhmDyk/s1600/20141018_104116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jmxT9I3tUg0/VIcGBsn8O8I/AAAAAAAAEBU/VkE5wAhmDyk/s1600/20141018_104116.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
These pants needed to be cropped, as they were a bit to long and ripped at the heel. The zipper needed to be replaced, as it kept opening.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PY2b27K9GbE/VIcFognmDFI/AAAAAAAAEBE/MusdaMa78jw/s1600/20141018_104412.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PY2b27K9GbE/VIcFognmDFI/AAAAAAAAEBE/MusdaMa78jw/s1600/20141018_104412.jpg" height="200" width="150" /></a> <a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_4xXKgJLHU0/VIcF5htphdI/AAAAAAAAEBM/oVcgeMeoaXI/s1600/20141018_104344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_4xXKgJLHU0/VIcF5htphdI/AAAAAAAAEBM/oVcgeMeoaXI/s1600/20141018_104344.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
They also needed some reinforcement between the thighs, which I also did, along with the other two repairs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r8mvo-94lXE/VIcF5qBdrFI/AAAAAAAAEBM/i39WQL0r9Pw/s1600/20141207_184153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-r8mvo-94lXE/VIcF5qBdrFI/AAAAAAAAEBM/i39WQL0r9Pw/s1600/20141207_184153.jpg" height="200" width="150" /></a> <a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1IDU7UIpmjY/VIcF5jUaHdI/AAAAAAAAEBM/MZ7-t2BMJM0/s1600/20141207_184139.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1IDU7UIpmjY/VIcF5jUaHdI/AAAAAAAAEBM/MZ7-t2BMJM0/s1600/20141207_184139.jpg" height="200" width="150" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I was done with all the repairs this project entailed, I have proceeded with tying the jeans with rubber bands. I'd like to make a point that there is no right or wrong way to tie your jeans for bleaching, however I would like to make a few points on that matter:<br />
<ul>
<li>there is no way to exactly replicate a design</li>
<li>more ties and more random tying will yield a more intricate design, while</li>
<li>fewer ties, similarly arranged will yield a more like 'tie dye' design</li>
<li>there is no certainty what colour will emerge during this process</li>
<li>if you feel like you must know the underlying colour of your jeans, try making a bleach test on an inconspicuous place prior proceeding with the project.</li>
</ul>
Supplemental: I have an additional precaution - perform bleaching outside (balcony, porch) or in a well ventilated space, as bleach fumes are harmful for humans and pets. They can also aggravate underlying respiratory issues. So, proceed with caution!<br />
<br />
To cut the story short, here is the result of this tie-bleach job:<br />
<br />

Felting and making mittens, scarves and all the comfy stuff are some of the most prominent ways of upcycling sweaters. A skirt appears here and there, but rarely resulting in something you would feel comfortable wearing to work.<br />
<br />
When I pried this sweater from my husbands hands after a session of persuading him he could not possibly be wearing it any longer as it is completely stretched out and abundant in slovenly stitched holes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6Qh9ThhUsmA/VIgLNnGlTWI/AAAAAAAAEDI/5LSCJezFi3U/s1600/20141018_105405.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-6Qh9ThhUsmA/VIgLNnGlTWI/AAAAAAAAEDI/5LSCJezFi3U/s1600/20141018_105405.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ACkDr4G-GBM/VIgDPTj2X0I/AAAAAAAAEC4/uwy4kAyi1EU/s1600/20141209_081538.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ACkDr4G-GBM/VIgDPTj2X0I/AAAAAAAAEC4/uwy4kAyi1EU/s1600/20141209_081538.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cH0IOzVXS7c/VIgDPcouSeI/AAAAAAAAEC4/H3YDRa0q-kI/s1600/20141209_081545.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cH0IOzVXS7c/VIgDPcouSeI/AAAAAAAAEC4/H3YDRa0q-kI/s1600/20141209_081545.jpg" height="150" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I really liked the sweater because of the combination of lively and formal colours. I really wanted to turn it in a winter skirt that I could wear to work. So, when I hacked the sweater at the bottom of the neckline, I realised the skirt would be too short, and that I would need to find a way to make it the proper length. As I failed to make any pictures in the chopping process, I made a drawing to compensate for it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6xNKhAlLjkM/VIWO3jxJrdI/AAAAAAAAEAA/uPoXvHzC5a8/s1600/Striped_sweater_cuts.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6xNKhAlLjkM/VIWO3jxJrdI/AAAAAAAAEAA/uPoXvHzC5a8/s1600/Striped_sweater_cuts.png" height="231" width="320" /></a></div>
Once I have chopped the part of the sweater up to the neckline slit, I continued to deconstruct the remainder of it with the aim of getting rectangular pieces of fabric to elongate the skirt. I got two from sleeves (numbers 1 and 2) which I hoped would be sufficient for what I needed them, which would be okay if I did a single layer.<br />
<br />
To give more structure to the skirt, to make it "smart" and to make sure it holds its shape well, I decided to go for double layer for elongating the skirt, so I obviously needed more fabric. The only viable pieces for the job were those marked with numbers 3 and 4.<br />
<br />
Since all the rectangles were uneven, I have trimmed those coming from sleeves (no 1 and 2) to be the same. Next, as rectangles 3 and 4 were significantly narrower and overall smaller then 1 and 2, I have stitched them together along the sides neighbouring to the central part of the sweater (where the neckline was). Now, I had 2 equal rectangles and one fairly similar to them. Next up, I have trimmed the third rectangle to match the first two in height.<br />
<br />
The process itself entailed using the 'iron-on paper/fabric'. I ironed an inch wide strip around the edge of the 'skirt' and completely covered the matching rectangles. Next up, I have stitched rectangles in form of the cylinder of the matching circumference as the skirt bottom / hem.<br />
<br />
I have ironed it, pinned and hemmed. Once I was done stitching, I had to add elastic band to the waist to reinforce the skirt, so it wouldn't slip down the hips throughout the day.<br />
<br />
